This book was a real labour of love. When I was working as a commissioning editor at Kodansha International I needed a new book concept and decided to create a book based on the thesis proposal I wrote when I was considering doing a PhD (after graduating from my MA in Japanese Cultural Studies). At the time, however, I felt I couldn’t write the book myself, so I commissioned Brian Ashcraft and his wife Shoko Ueda to be the authors (based on my book outline), and so Japanese Schoolgirl Confidential was born!

As well as being Commissioning Editor, I was also Art Director, photographer and illustrator for the book.
