The FT Magazine
ART DIRECTOR
In early 2003 I was hired as an Art Director at The Financial Times and was responsible for designing the launch issue and ongoing art direction of a new weekly supplement for the Saturday FT newspaper. The launch issue featured then Prime Minister Tony Blair photographed exclusively for us by world renowned photographer Rankin. The result received worldwide media coverage. In 2003 the magazine was nominated for “Best Launch” and “Best Typography” and in 2004 nominated for “Best Use of Illustration” at the UK Magazine Design Awards. The magazine became known for its creative use of illustration and over the course of 136 issues I commissioned and briefed many of the best illustrators working in the world today, as well as illustrating many covers myself (some can be seen here).
